The collaborative nature of NICHE’s network is vital, allowing leading experts and practitioners to share knowledge, experiences, and best practices to improve the care of older adults and to promote the role of patients and families in directing the care they receive.
This has been the guiding philosophy of The John A. Hartford Foundation since its establishment in 1929. With funds from the bequests of its founders, John A. Hartford and his brother George L. Hartford, both former chief executives of the Great Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company (the A&P grocery stores), The John A. Hartford Foundation seeks to make its best contribution by supporting efforts to improve the care of older adults.
Since its start in 1996, the singular mission of the Hartford Institute has been to shape the quality of healthcare of older adults through excellence in nursing practice. The Hartford Institute, developed with core funding from The John A. Hartford Foundation, is recognized as unique in academic nursing in its focus on disseminating best practices to nursing students, faculty, practicing nurses, and policy makers.
