NICHE™ PROGRAM ANNUAL EVALUATION AND
GERIATRIC INSTITUTIONAL ASSESSMENT PROFILE (GIAP) SURVEYS
Effective June 2016
We have instituted the following changes to redesign the NICHE Program Evaluation and Designation, and the GIAP Benchmarking services, so that they more closely align with your organization’s nursing quality improvement initiatives and standard healthcare industry practices.
NICHE™ DESIGNATION. No Membership Profile or Program Evaluation surveys will be distributed for the upcoming year –June 2016 to October 2017.
NICHE designated hospitals will maintain their current designation levels during this time. Membership in the NICHE Program will continue in good standing upon receipt of annual dues. Individual requests to upgrade NICHE program designation will be considered if it is critical to your entity.
Geriatric Institutional Assessment Profile (GIAP) Benchmarking Service. The GIAP survey system and benchmarking service is now closed for technology upgrades.
Members interested in assessing staff nurse competencies in geriatric care are encouraged to use the Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing Clinical Competencies (2012 version) assessment tool. The competency model can be accessed at the NYU Meyers, Hartford Institute for Geriatric Nursing, ConsultGeri website.
For NICHE members that are also participating in the ANCC Magnet or Pathway to Excellence programs, and have recently completed a practice environment survey, we recommend that while the GIAP survey is under revision, that you use these data to identify nursing practice development opportunities to support excellence in nursing care and quality.
Members who joined the NICHE™ Program in September 2015, January 2016, May 2016, or September 2016 are encouraged to complete a Year 1 Implementation Survey and Practice Portfolio.
The Year 1 Implementation Survey and Practice Portfolio is designed for members that have not submitted data for review to determine a NICHE Program implementation level (i.e.: Early, Progressive, Senior Friendly, Exemplar). The survey and practice portfolio provide your organization with the opportunity to highlight the progress that you have made with implementing the NICHE Program, set forth in the action plan completed during the Leadership Training Program (LTP).
Administered three times a year to coincide with the annual membership renewal, members are encouraged to complete a 50 question on-line survey designed to assess systems and structures to support the implementation of the NICHE Program principles and practices on the participating nursing units. The practice portfolio compliments the survey data to provide a full picture of the program activities and clinical improvement projects undertaken to build the NICHE Program in your organization. Members completing the Year 1 Implementation Survey and Practice Portfolio will receive a report and recommendations from the NICHE team to guide program development plans.
